This is a debate I have often with fellow farmers. I own 2 tractors and I still sometimes hire when demand is high. Here's my analysis: owning makes sense if you farm more than 50 hectares consistently. Below that, hiring is more economical when you factor in maintenance, operator salary, fuel, and depreciation. The GoAllFarm tools section has made hiring much easier now – I found 3 tractors within 20km of my farm last season.

Where do you hire tractor operators from? That's always the challenge.

Great information! I've been struggling with this exact problem. Can you share the contact details of your supplier or agent?

I had a similar experience. What worked for me was consulting with the state ADP extension officers. They offer free farm visits in some states.

This is gold! I'll be sharing with my cooperative members at our next meeting. We need more discussions like this on the platform.

As a first-generation farmer, posts like this give me confidence that it's possible to build a successful agribusiness in Nigeria.

Excellent post. One addition I'd make: always keep records. A simple notebook tracking inputs, costs, and yields makes a big difference come year-end.

I tried this approach last year and it worked well. The only challenge was sourcing quality inputs on time. Plan early!
